Kurdish parties call for general strike on 4th anniversary of Jina Amini's death
The Coalition of Kurdistan Political Parties of Iran (Hevpeymaniya Hêzên Siyasî yên Kurdistana Îranê) has called for a general strike across Rojhilat on Wednesday, September 16, marking the fourth anniversary of Jina Amini's death.

The coalition asked people to close shops and markets and to stay home in support of the action. The statement also invited political parties, civil society organizations and other groups to join the call.
Reason: rising repression and executions
The coalition cited mounting economic and security pressure, continued arrests of political and civil activists, and a sharp rise in executions as reasons for the call.
The statement said the general strike was not only meant to commemorate those killed in the "Jin Jiyan Azadî" uprising, but also to serve as a peaceful form of civil action showing that the Kurdish people's political and national demands remain unresolved.
Coalition formed in February
The Coalition of Kurdistan Political Parties of Iran (Hawpeymanî) was formed on February 22, 2026. Its founding members are the Democratic Party of Iranian Kurdistan (PDKI/KDPI), the Kurdistan Freedom Party (PAK), the Kurdistan Free Life Party (PJAK), the Kurdistan Struggle Organization (Xebat) and the Kurdistan Toilers' Party (Komele). According to some sources, the Komala Party, led by Abdullah Mohtadi, later joined the coalition, bringing the number of member parties to six.
Mostly based in exile in Başûr (the Kurdistan Region of Iraq), these parties came together to coordinate their political — and at times armed — activities against the Islamic Republic of Iran and to advocate for the right of Rojhilat Kurds to self-determination.
Amini's death sparked an uprising four years ago
Jina Mahsa Amini, 22, died in a Tehran hospital after being detained by the morality police on September 16, 2022, for allegedly violating hijab rules. Evidence that emerged after her death indicated she had suffered a blow to the head.
Her death triggered an uprising that spread across Iran under the slogan "Jin Jiyan Azadî," with Kurdish regions at its center. The Human Rights Activists News Agency (HRANA) reported that 473 protesters, including 64 children, were killed nationwide.
On the first, second and third anniversaries of her death, shopkeepers in Rojhilat cities held strikes, and Iranian security forces responded each time by deploying large numbers of troops and intelligence personnel to the region to try to prevent them. On the third anniversary, security personnel opened fire on villagers at a gold mine in Saqqez, killing a farmer.
