DEM Party again calls Kobani incident a "provocation"
DEM Party's Central Executive Board called the abduction and killing of Sîpan Hiznî and the intervention that led to deaths of detainees at Kobani prison "a clear provocation," and demanded the withdrawal of security forces sent from Aleppo.
RastinewsDEM Party's Central Executive Board issued a written statement condemning the abduction and killing of Sami Şeyhmus Heso (Sîpan Hiznî), a soldier with the Syrian army's Hasakah Brigade, and the intervention that led to deaths of detainees at Kobani prison.
The statement read in full:
"We condemn the abduction and killing of Sîpan Hiznî, who served with the Hasakah Brigade, and the intervention that caused detainees at Kobani prison to lose their lives. We are deeply saddened by these painful losses. We offer our condolences to the families of those who died and to the people of Rojava, and wish a swift recovery to the wounded.
It is notable that Sîpan Hiznî was killed at a sensitive stage of Syria's integration process. This killing, and the manner of the intervention at the prison, amount to a clear provocation.
The killing of Sîpan Hiznî and the events at Kobani prison must be investigated thoroughly. The cause of the deaths must be established without delay, and those responsible must be identified regardless of position or rank.
We believe the withdrawal of security forces sent from Aleppo to Kobani from the region would be the right step to prevent the tension from escalating further. The Damascus government should avoid interventions that could inflame the situation. The democratic reaction of the people of Rojava should not be met with force; the approach taken should aim to ease social tension, not deepen it.
At such a fragile juncture in the process, any incident risks becoming grounds for provocation. Preventing that is the shared responsibility of everyone who bears responsibility."
