RastinewsParliament Speaker Numan Kurtulmuş met in Ankara with visiting Iraqi Council of Representatives Speaker Heybet Halbusi. The two held a joint press conference after their talks.

Kurtulmuş said the PKK has entered a process of dissolving itself and handing over its weapons. He said Turkey supports the integration of the Syrian Democratic Forces (SDF) into Syria's new government.

Kurtulmuş argued the process should extend to Iraq as well. He said preparations for armed groups in Iraq to hand their weapons over to the central government will begin next month.

"I hope Iraq's disarmament project will be carried out as soon as possible, so that peace and well-being prevail across all of Iraq," Kurtulmuş said.

Halbusi, the Iraqi parliament speaker, said work was continuing to ensure weapons remain solely under state control. "A process will be launched on September 30 or October 1 to bring all weapons under state authority," he said.
