Turkmen Assembly: Elective Turkish classes dropped, French added instead
Under Syria's move to a unified curriculum, Turkish classes offered as an elective in some schools north of Aleppo have been dropped. The Syrian Turkmen Assembly says the Education Ministry has issued no written decision on the change.
RastinewsSyria's unified curriculum took effect on September 6, and with it, Turkish classes previously offered as an elective in some schools around Azaz, Jarablus, al-Bab, Marea and Al-Rai, north of Aleppo, have been dropped from the syllabus. French has replaced Turkish.
An official from the Syrian Turkmen Assembly said the Education Ministry had issued no specific decision or circular on scrapping Turkish, and that the change took effect simply as a byproduct of the unified curriculum's rollout.
Turkish had been taught in schools in the region since the 2016-2017 academic year, during the civil war.
