Canada hits back at US with 50% steel tariffs
Prime Minister Mark Carney's government has imposed tariffs ranging from 15% to 50% on hundreds of products imported from the United States. The move is meant to strengthen Ottawa's hand in ongoing negotiations with Washington.

Brian Clow, who served as a senior trade adviser on US-Canada relations under Trudeau, said Canada is not imposing the tariffs because it wants a trade war, but because it wants one to end.
"Canada isn't doing this because it wants a trade war," Clow told Bloomberght. "It's doing it because it wants the trade war to end."
Carney had lifted Trudeau's tariffs
Canada had imposed counter-tariffs on the US under former Prime Minister Justin Trudeau. But the Carney government lifted most of them about a year ago.
