French mayors targeted: over 100,000 records leaked
RastinewsA cyberattack on the website of France's Association of Mayors (AMF) reportedly compromised more than 100,000 records.
According to the French Breaches platform, which documents cyberattacks in the country, the leaked data includes elected officials' first and last names, email addresses, usernames, login passwords and official titles.
In a statement on X, the association confirmed that the attack occurred the previous day. According to the statement, the attack did not disrupt the operation of the association's computer system; individuals whose data was leaked will be informed about the security measures they should take.
No information was released on who carried out the attack or for what reason.
More than three hundred institutions in a year
The incident is the latest in a wave of cyberattacks that has shaken France throughout 2026. In April, France Titres (ANTS), which handles identity and passport processing, was targeted, with the Interior Ministry announcing that 11.7 million accounts had been compromised. Over the summer, the Ministry of National Education, the tax administration DGFiP and fire departments were also attacked.
In an assessment on 30 April, the French government acknowledged that the country experiences an average of three data breaches per day. According to figures from the French cybersecurity agency ANSSI, 293 cyberattacks targeting local governments were claimed in 2025 alone.
Despite an emergency action plan announced in April and expanded in August, the continuation of the attacks has intensified criticism that the government is not taking sufficient measures.
