Mohammad-Bagher Zolqadr, secretary of Iran's Supreme National Security Council, said the final decision on reopening the strategically vital strait depends on implementation of the Islamabad Agreement.
Zolqadr listed the conditions as:
- A complete halt to U.S. military operations against Iran and its regional allies,
- The lifting of economic sanctions on Iran,
- The release of frozen Iranian assets,
- Compensation for damage Iran sustained during the war,
- The withdrawal of U.S. forces from around Iran's borders,
- Washington's compliance with the terms of the Islamabad Agreement.
Tehran said the talks under way between Iran and Oman do not concern the political status of Hormuz, and cover only the technical, legal and administrative aspects of shipping routes.
Washington: 'We Will Use Every Tool'
U.S. Vice President J.D. Vance said Washington would use diplomatic, economic and military tools to achieve the outcome it wants.
The U.S. administration believes sustained pressure on Tehran could push Iran toward a deal that would let its energy exports resume.
Progress in the Oman-mediated contacts has raised the prospect that restrictions on Iranian ports could be lifted and oil exports could restart after a roughly five-month halt.
