Parliament Passes 'National Solidarity' Law, but Enactment Awaits Security Council Confirmation

Rastinews — 🔶 The law on "Strengthening National Solidarity and Social Integration" passed Turkey's parliament with 468 votes in favor. But its actual implementation still hinges on a determination, a confirmation and a National Security Council (MGK) review.

Security agencies must first determine that the PKK/KCK and affiliated structures have ended their "de facto presence" and handed over their weapons. The National Security Council must then confirm that finding before the decision is published in the Official Gazette.

DEM Party Co-Chair Tülay Hatimoğulları pointed to this stage, saying: "The National Security Council preparing its report and having it published in the Official Gazette to take effect is as vital as the law's passage itself."

Parliament goes into recess until October 1, and the National Security Council's next regular meeting is expected in early October. That has turned political attention to the roughly two-month critical period following the law's passage.
