Board overseeing PKK disarmament meets again, defines subcommittees' powers

RastinewsThe National Solidarity and Integration Coordination Board, established under Law No. 7595, held its second meeting at the Presidential Complex in Ankara under the chairmanship of Vice President Cevdet Yılmaz.

The meeting reviewed the current stage of the process, work carried out under the law, and steps planned for the coming period.

Subcommittees' powers clarified

The structure of the subcommittees formed within the board dominated the agenda.

According to a statement issued after the meeting, participants discussed and finalized the formation, duties and authority of the subcommittees to make the process "more effective, faster and better coordinated." Issues related to inter-agency coordination were also addressed.

The statement stressed the importance of the board's responsibility for "reinforcing social peace and integration." The board said it would continue its work within the framework set by the law and in full coordination among institutions.

The statement gave no detail on the specific powers assigned to each subcommittee, nor on the timeline for detecting and verifying disarmament.

Full security bureaucracy at the table

The meeting was attended by Justice Minister Akın Gürlek, Interior Minister Mustafa Çiftçi, National Defense Minister Yaşar Güler, Presidential Chief of Staff Hakkı Susmaz, National Intelligence Organization (MİT) Chief İbrahim Kalın, and National Security Council Secretary-General Okay Memiş.

Four commissions set up at first meeting

The board had formed four subcommittees at its first meeting: Judicial and Legal Affairs Coordination, Monitoring and Detection, Social Cohesion and Integration, and Disarmament and Strategic Coordination.

The board was created under Law No. 7595, which lays out the legal framework for the disarmament process, and was tasked with verifying the process on the ground.
