Buldan: peace process entering phase of concrete steps

RastinewsDeputy parliament speaker and DEM Party İmralı delegation member Pervin Buldan met with Peace Mothers in Van.

Writing on social media after the meeting, Buldan highlighted the persistence on peace shown by women who have borne the costs of war and conflict for years.

"The words of women who have carried the heaviest burden of pain for years, yet still refuse to give up on peace and life, guide us. The persistence of the Peace Mothers is the shared hope of all peoples. Amplifying this voice and making peace lasting is a responsibility we all share," Buldan said.

"Significant developments will happen"

Assessing the meeting afterward, Buldan said the process would move into a new phase.

"In the coming days we will likely enter a period in which more concrete, practical steps are taken," Buldan said, adding that these developments would give peace a more tangible form.

Buldan stressed that the process would not advance through official steps alone, saying: "Of course our struggle is still needed here. A joint, common struggle is needed. We will keep doing this together."

The process began in October 2024

A new process, which Ankara has called "Turkey Without Terror," began after MHP leader Devlet Bahçeli's October 2024 call addressed to Abdullah Öcalan.

On February 27, 2025, in a "Call for Peace and Democratic Society" read out to the public by the İmralı delegation, Öcalan called on the PKK to lay down its arms and dissolve itself. In May 2025, the PKK announced at its congress that it had decided to end its organizational existence.

In July 2025, a group of PKK members burned their weapons in Sulaymaniyah, and a commission was set up within the Turkish parliament to discuss the legal groundwork for the process.
