Turkey revokes operating license of Iranian bank

Turkey's Banking Regulation and Supervision Agency (BDDK) has revoked the operating license of the Istanbul branch of Iran's Bank Mellat, which had operated in Turkey since 1982 and is on the US sanctions list.

RastinewsIranian carrier Mahan Air has announced it is cancelling its Tehran–Istanbul and Tehran–Ankara flights from September 21 until further notice. The last flights will operate on September 20. The airline attributed the decision to a notification from Turkish aviation authorities.

Turkish officials have not issued a detailed public statement on the matter. Halk TV reported that no official statement had come from the State Airports Authority (DHMİ), the Directorate General of Civil Aviation, or the Ministry of Transport. Mahan Air had already cancelled its Tehran–Muscat flights starting September 17. Its Georgia flights are also expected to be suspended from September 21. (Euronews)

US sanctions in the background

On September 8, the US Treasury Department's Office of Foreign Assets Control (OFAC) added 27 Iranian airlines to its sanctions list. The list included three Turkey-based companies linked to Mahan Air. (AirTurkHaber, Türkiye Today)
