Bayık targets Mazlum Abdi, sidesteps Öcalan's role in Damascus process

Direction from Abdullah Öcalan and Kandil proved decisive in Mazlum Abdi's dealings with Damascus, yet Cemil Bayık placed full responsibility for the advisory role on Abdi alone. Bayık's silence on Öcalan's part in the process has prompted observers to say the criticism was narrowed to Abdi while the İmralı-Rojava relationship went unexamined.

RastinewsKCK Executive Council Co-Chair Cemil Bayık has criticized Mazlum Abdi for accepting an advisory role under Syrian President Ahmed al-Sharaa.

In an interview with Rojava-based Nûçe TV, Bayık recalled that Abdi had previously said he would not take on any official position. Abdi later agreed to become al-Sharaa's adviser, Bayık said.

"At first he said he wouldn't take any post. But then he accepted the advisory role. What's more, he didn't become an adviser responsible for Kurdish affairs — he became just another adviser, a bureaucrat. The criticism of this is fair, and we criticize it too. He should not have accepted it," Bayık said.

Bayık added that the picture would look different had Abdi taken the post specifically as a representative of Kurdish interests. "If he had become the Kurds' adviser, it wouldn't have been a problem," he said.

Bayık: Integrating the YBŞ into the Iraqi army is a positive step

Bayık also commented on the demands of the Yazidi community in Shengal and on the integration of the Shengal Resistance Units (YBŞ) into Iraqi security forces.

He said Yazidis want to move toward "democratic integration" with the Iraqi state. "If that happens, it would be good. It appears Iraq wants to resolve this issue," Bayık said.

Bayık also addressed the future of the camp in Mahmur district, near Mosul.

He said that if the process succeeds, the Mahmur camp issue would also be resolved, noting that Turkey and Iraq have decided that camp residents should return to Turkey.

Bayık stressed that such a step could only go ahead if residents were given guarantees.

Bayık: Iran's regime will collapse if it fails to resolve the Kurdish issue

Turning to Iran and the situation of Kurds in Rojhilat, Bayık argued that Iran's regime would "collapse" if it failed to resolve the Kurdish issue.

He said Kurds need to organize and prepare for possible developments, adding that they should be ready both for the possibility that democratic integration fails and for the possibility of war.
