"With great sorrow and grief, I mourn the nine martyrs from Kobanî who lost their lives during the unrest at the prison in the city," Abdi wrote. "I extend my heartfelt condolences to their families and to the people of Kobanî, and I wish a swift recovery to the wounded."
Investigation launched
Abdi said the relevant authorities had opened a comprehensive and transparent investigation to uncover what lay behind the incident and hold those responsible to account, and that the findings would be shared with the public in full.
Abdi stressed that preventing similar incidents would require strengthening the role of the judiciary and security institutions and improving coordination between them. He said this would guarantee the rule of law, protect the rights of civilians and detainees, and help ensure Kobanî's security and stability.
