Shelters and Depots Abandoned
Field surveys by security units and satellite data show that critical points along the Metina, Avaşin, Zap and Haftanin lines have been evacuated.
The abandoned sites included the group's command centers, communication bases and ammunition depots.
Underground shelters and caves used for shelter in the region were also reported to have been abandoned.
The step marks the most comprehensive withdrawal to date aimed at fully ending military activity in the field, following partial pullbacks from 72 separate points along the border in recent months.
Background to the Process
These developments gained momentum after PKK leader Abdullah Öcalan called for the group's dissolution, disarmament, and a shift to activities confined to the political sphere.
The organization announced its dissolution in May 2025, after which weapons were destroyed in a symbolic ceremony held near Kandil. With the withdrawal of the last remaining elements inside Turkish territory, the dismantling of a conflict that had continued in the field for decades has now been completed.
DEM Party Calls for "Framework Law"
Following the developments on the ground, the political wing also called for legal guarantees. DEM Party spokesperson Ayşegül Doğan said work on a "framework law" needed to be accelerated to make the peace process permanent.
