Kurdish parties in Kirkuk issue seven-point joint statement

RastinewsKurdish political parties and groups in Kirkuk have issued a seven-point joint statement following a broadly attended meeting.

The meeting, held Wednesday at the headquarters of the Kurdistan Democratic Party's (KDP) third branch in Kirkuk, addressed the city's political situation and a common Kurdish stance.

Participants agreed to unify Kurdish political discourse and align positions on national issues.

The statement called for continuing joint meetings among Kurdish parties and for serious efforts to reclaim administrative posts previously allocated to Kurds that have been lost in recent years.

It stressed that competition over administrative posts and narrow political interests must not be allowed to divide the Kurdish political front, warning that internal divisions could lead to further political and administrative losses for Kurds in Kirkuk.

The statement noted that Kurds represent the majority in the city. "This political weight must be respected," it said.

It added that any agreements reached with other communities must not cause concern among Kirkuk's Kurds or weaken Kurdish unity.

The statement further said that the core issue in Kurdish areas outside the Kurdistan Region's administration is the dispute over territory and administrative authority, and it underlined the importance of a unified political stance to safeguard Kurdish political gains and rights.

According to a report on the Nerina Azad website, the meeting of Kurdish parties in Kirkuk came amid ongoing efforts to restore the political and administrative influence the city lost after the events of October 16, 2017.

Following the 2017 developments, Kurds lost a number of administrative and security posts in the city, including the governorship of Kirkuk.
