Venice's Tourist Entry Fee Brings In €5 Million

RastinewsVenice says its entry fee for day-trippers visiting the historic center has generated more than €5 million in revenue.

From April through the end of July, day visitors were charged €5 for advance bookings or €10 for last-minute entry into the city.

Over the season's 60 busiest days, the city recorded more than 650,000 payments, and according to figures reported by the dpa news agency, total revenue topped €5 million.

City officials called the pilot scheme a success in managing crowds. The mayor has proposed raising the fee on the busiest days to between €30 and €50 starting next year, aiming to curb overcrowding more effectively.

The entry fee applies only to day-trippers; visitors staying overnight in the city are exempt.
