RastinewsAccording to The New York Times, with tensions between the United States and Iran flaring anew, Washington relayed a cease-fire proposal to Tehran through Iraqi Prime Minister Zaidi. Iran rejected the offer.
Iranian Foreign Minister Araghchi said Tehran and Washington have no trouble finding a mediator. "The problem is America's attitude," he said.
The New York Times reported that Iran has rejected a cease-fire proposal from U.S. President Donald Trump. According to Iranian and Iraqi officials, the offer was delivered to Tehran by Iraqi Prime Minister Ali al-Zaidi. The failed mediation effort came as Trump threatened to escalate the war and strike Iran's critical infrastructure.
Officials who spoke on condition of anonymity because they were discussing sensitive national security matters said Prime Minister Ali al-Zaidi's visit to Iran came shortly after his meeting with Trump at the White House.
Iranian officials were reported to have rejected the offer, stressing they were not interested in a "temporary arrangement" that would not resolve the final status of the Strait of Hormuz. The details of the proposal remain unknown, the report said.
Before Iran rejected the cease-fire offer, the Times had reported that Iraqi Prime Minister Zaidi traveled to Iran to deliver a proposal aimed at securing a truce.
