Germany urges its citizens to leave Iran
Germany's Foreign Ministry has scaled back operations at its Tehran embassy over security concerns and repeated its call for German nationals in Iran to leave the country.

RastinewsGermany's Foreign Ministry has scaled back operations at its Tehran embassy citing security concerns, and repeated its call for German nationals in Iran to leave the country.
The embassy remains open, the ministry said, but consular and visa services are now being provided only for emergencies and on a limited basis.
The ministry said it is closely monitoring the security situation in Iran and staying in regular contact with the Tehran embassy, adding that the safety of diplomatic staff remains its top priority. Protective measures are being continuously reviewed and updated in line with developments, it said.
The Foreign Ministry also said the embassy cannot operate at full staffing because of restrictions Iranian authorities have placed on diplomatic accreditations, which is why it can only offer limited consular services.
Berlin also renewed its travel warning for Iran and called on German citizens to leave the country. Germans in Iran were advised to register with the ELEFAND crisis preparedness system so they can receive the embassy's security alerts and emergency notifications.
The ministry noted that Germany's travel warning for Iran and its advice for citizens to leave the country had been in place for several years, and would continue to be reviewed regularly based on developments on the ground.
