Barzani says drone attacks launched from Mosul

RastinewsKurdistan Region Prime Minister Masrour Barzani made pointed remarks on the recent rise in drone attacks targeting Kurdistan Region interests at a press conference in Erbil.

Pointing to the security situation and regional stability, Barzani identified the origin of the strikes: "Some of the recent attacks were launched from Iraqi territory, particularly from the direction of Mosul."

"We're Not Being Allowed to Get an Air Defense System"

The Kurdistan Region prime minister said international contacts were ongoing to strengthen defense mechanisms following the attacks, and referred to the air defense systems requested from Baghdad. Barzani described the obstacles this way:

"The reason the Kurdistan Region still doesn't have an air defense system isn't that we haven't submitted the necessary requests - it's that we haven't been allowed to acquire these weapons."

Calls on Baghdad to Take Responsibility

Barzani said obtaining defense systems mattered, but stressed that the real priority was drying up the source of the threat, and he called on the central government to act. Illegal armed groups must not be allowed to endanger the Kurdistan Region's security, he said, adding that this was vital to the security of all of Iraq.
